Why Your Plan Needs a “Bad Day” Version

Your plan works beautifully — on good days. But life isn’t made of good days. The sick day, the work crisis, the trip, the night everything goes sideways — those are the days that actually decide whether you succeed, and most plans have nothing to offer them but collapse.

That’s the flaw. Your plan was built for the easy days and abandons you on the hard ones.

Here’s what quietly kills most people’s progress: not the bad day itself, but the spiral after it. One derailed day with no backup plan becomes “I’ve failed,” which becomes a lost week, which becomes another restart. The people who actually keep going aren’t spared the bad days — they’ve simply pre-decided a stripped-down version that keeps the chain alive when everything falls apart. A tiny version still counts. Zero breaks the streak.

  • Pre-write your minimum — one walk, one protein meal, one glass of water.
  • Aim to maintain, not gain, on the hard days. Holding ground is a win.
  • Protect the chain. The goal is simply not to zero out.

Don’t build a plan for perfect days. Build one that survives the worst ones.
